List of ways to ruin a list

List of ways to ruin a list The goals you have for your life are only as good as your daily to-do list. You can make all the grand plans you want, but if you dont stay on track each day, you wont reach those goals. To-do lists are for people who believe in their dreams and their ability to reach them. List makers create daily plans for success. In other words, everyone should have a daily to-do list. If you arent careful, however, your list will become more of a procrastination aid than dream machine. Here are seven typical ways you can undermine your list: 1. Ignore it. This is my pet thing to do. If I cant handle my life that day, I dont look at my list. This allows me to think I dont need to do anything. But then the rest of the week is hell because Im compensating for stuff I ruined by ignoring it. It would have been easier to review my list, accomplish the most pressing items, and then go back to bed. 2. List vague tasks. Take, for example, work on presentation. When is this job finished? How many things need working on? Why would you start this chore if you have no plan for completing it? This item is like poison ivy â€" you see it and go another direction. Break down the items on your list into manageable parts. Besides crossing items off the list is fun, and the more to cross off the better.. Ive been known to write buy envelopes as one of the tasks needed to send resumes. Its an easy step in a hard process â€" makes me feel like Im getting something done in my big-picture goal of landing a job. 3. Create a wish list. A wish list is not a to-do list. Its important to have life goals and its nice to be lofty, but no point in putting buy a house on your to-do list. If you really can buy a house, try listing an easier item like, call mortgage broker If you cant get that far, make a list of things youd like to have in 10 years. Include buy a house and post this list on your fridge. Then get back to your to-do list â€" every 10-year plan is the culmination of 3,650 daily to do lists. 4. Switching manically between types of tasks. E-mail, phone, errand, e-mail, phone, errand. This is not a productive day. A good day is e-mail,e-mail, e-mail, phone, phone, phone, errand, errand, errand. So organize your to-do list so that you do all your e-mails in one or two sittings. 5. List items youd like to do but shouldnt. These are fun things like learn 1000 words in Italian or knit an extra-large sweater. Most working professionals do not have time for these in a typical day. Unproductive adults indulge themselves in doing them anyway because it makes them feel productive. I know I do not have time to make cupcakes for my husbands birthday and I should buy him a cake from the local bakery. But I put making cupcakes on my to-do list anyway, and then, when he comes home, Im annoyed because making his cupcakes ruined my workday. 6. Lose sight of the big picture. How many people are unemployed but dont have get a job on their list? If youre among them, good for you â€" because get a job is too vague. But you should include job-search-related tasks, such as Send out six resumes or make two networking calls. So many people omit chores related to their most important goal because they seem obvious. But if you dont put them on the list, they wont happen. 7. Write a novel. A list is not a novel. It is one page.

Hes also dabbled in all kinds of industries from alcohol to film and television to fashion lines. He famously bought a stake in the then-New Jersey Nets basketball team and moved them to Brooklyn in 2012. In 2015, Jay Z launched the Tidal music streaming service which now has 3 million subscribers. Usually I dont do this but, uh go on and break em off with the preview of the remix. pic.twitter.com/2QgI740M â€" Mr. Carter (@S_C_) 26 September 2012 All these shenanigans have made the object of Queen Beys affection a man of considerable resources. Forbes put his 2016 net worth at a cool $610 million, a $60 million dollar increase on the 2015 figure. Say what you want about the Brooklynite, but you cant knock the hustle. Carter and Browns fund will focus on seed-stage companies, but the fund size is yet to be confirmed. What If You Are Still Engaged In Your Employers Position?

What If You Are Still Engaged In Your Employer's Position? When writing a resume, a question that comes up often is, 'What if you are still employed by your previous employer, but your current employer is seeking to hire someone else?' There are several good reasons for this. The first of these reasons is because of the 'above the line' method used by many companies today. In the above-the-line method, current employer is looking for someone that will carry on the work they are doing. The reason for this is it is more cost effective for them. You may be seeking employment, but your job could be threatened by the new hire.It is important to note that you can answer this question by putting to present date if still engaged in that position. If your employer has said they would prefer to consider another candidate, you should make it clear you will not be able to be completely withdrawn from that position, and that you will accept any offer made. When you are prepared to do this, you will find it is much easier to obtain an interview. Your employer will appreciate this as they can see that you are serious about your new opportunity. The above-the-line method is not always the right approach to take. For example, in the case of an employer that is trying to retain an employee, they may well want someone that has some experience in the position they wish to keep. In these circumstances, it is possible to say that you are currently engaged, but would be happy to consider other opportunities before the end of the year. In this instance, you would not be in the position of being quoted, so will not have to get quotes from other companies. When answering this question, you will need to remember that if you were to apply for the same position at another company, you could take the opportunity to present your skill set and experience to them. This does not mean that you would want to pose your skills and experience as being employed at your previous employer. In fact, you sho uld state only that you would be happy to discuss your skill set and experience with other companies. They will appreciate this and appreciate your skill set.You may also be asked, 'If you are currently employed by your current employer, is it correct to state to present date if still engaged in that position?' Well, this is one of those situations where it is not really the job of your employer to decide what you should say in your resume. It is your job to present a convincing cover letter, and your employer may well think that you are being too positive. In the end, answer this question with what you intend to do after you have presented your resume. If your intention is to find a new job, say you have no intention of taking on any new job. When writing a resume, it is important to consider all of the points above.

Using Your Lawyer As A Trusted Business Associate - Work It Daily

Using Your Lawyer As A Trusted Business Associate - Work It Daily When disaster strikes a business, whether it’s a financial, reputation, or business loss, the business enters unknown territory. It needs a legal guide to help it repair the damage and get the business back on track. It’s not a time to improvise, ask friends and relatives, or find solutions online. The business management needs a personal adviser with experience and ability to help fix what needs fixing. Recovery from a business loss is a legal as well as financial matter. Law firms can provide guidance and referrals to financial, reputation management and public relations, and loss mitigation professionals. They can take legal action to limit ongoing loss situations. If losses are a result of others’ actions, other legal avenues may also be pursued to avoid further losses and recover for current ones. Legal firms can act as “incident commanders,” professionals who direct a recovery operation in times of disaster. This gives business owners a chance to keep the focus on continuing operations during the recovery period, and makes sure that recovery strategy is not an afterthought. Financial recovery can require audits, forensic accounting, or management of a criminal investigation. Reputation management and public relations helps to keep the business’ successes and value to the community clearly visible. Loss mitigation can help limit physical losses and ensure that company assets of any type are accounted for and that their value is maintained. Businesses need to know where to find a law firm to provide recovery services. Online advertising with companies such as Google or Yahoo can catch business owners’ attention while they read business news online or check sports scores. Firms can reach out to local businesses directly or through the Yellow Pages. Chambers of commerce and organizations such as the National Federation of Independent Business provide introductions with trusted firms in the community. Companies which know the legal services market can help to establish a presence with both small and medium sized businesses and multinationals which may need local help. Just as businesses need to be ready when unexpected situations cause losses, so law firms need to position themselves to help companies avoid strategic mistakes. They can provide damage control and help recover losses so that the business is back running smoothly and with minimal harm to business operations. Law firms can be trusted advisers in a time of great need and uncertainty. Amanda Green is a freelance writer who writes on the topics of career, personal finance, and law.
